What are your prices?

Prices have to be calculated on a project by project basis, due to the fact that each client needs a different number of pages and features. Price is usually calculated based on the number of pages and on top of that I add the fees for extra features like: flash animations, drop down menus, databases, online forms, image manipulation, etc.

 

What are your payment terms?

I usually request a 50% deposit to start working on your project. The other half is paid once the project is finished. Please note that if the website is ready and we are just waiting on your copy to go live, the project is considered completed. Please refer to my Terms and Conditions page for further details.

 

Do you start with a template or from scratch?

I always design everything from scratch. I have a particular style and you will find my personal touch on most of my designs, but every design starts from an empty (virtual) canvas.

 

Are your websites built with tables or tableless CSS?

I code everything from scratch. My HTML code also starts from an empty page. It can't get any cleaner!

My code is compliant and built with tableless CSS. For those who know a bit about this "web designer jargon" it means it is the best you can get. Not only does it make your website lighter so it loads faster, but it is very easy to update even if the changes are made by another designer. Besides, it makes your website very flexible. You want it to grow with your business, right?

 

Are you a programmer too?

I know enough programming to understand what is going on, but I decided to dedicate my time to what I really enjoy doing: design. So, I have my own team of programmers working full time for me. They are not outsourced and they don't change over time. At the most, I add more people to this happy family. During the last few years I managed to create a very reliable, strong and honest team, that work to my standards. There are currently 6 people working full time with me to make my designs come true.

 

Do you do graphic design?

Yes, I do. I have been doing graphic design for almost 9 years now. barbaracarneiro.com started as a portfolio for my web design work so I decided to do a separate one for my graphic design work only. You can see it at www.barbaralogan.com.

 

I need to register a domain name? Can you assist me?

Yes. I can register it for you or assist you if you need to transfer to a different registrar, change DNS, or park it. Don't worry about the jargon, I will take care of it so you don't have to worry about it. And no matter what, the domain will always belong to you, not to me.

 

How many revisions do you offer?

I offer unlimited revisions during the design stage. Put it this way, if I were an architect I would make changes to the layout as many times as you need before we actually build the house. So, before we actually have HTML pages my clients can make as many revisions as they need.

 

Do you know how to optimize my photos for the web?

I know how to optimize your images for the web. Some designers don't and that's why you still see blurred or pixelated images here and there. And the opposite is also true. To show quality some designers forget about resolution or .jpeg quality when exporting your images so they take a lot longer to load.

 

Are your designs search engine friendly?

All my designs are search engine friendly. This does not mean your website will show up on page one for your favorite keyword, but it is ready to be optimized for that. Mainly this means all your content is indexable and readable by search engines.

 

Can you integrate video on my website?

I work with video and I am constantly exploring new media and new technology to better serve my clients. I have the necessary tools to optimize your videos and make them look good and load fast.

 

Will my website look good on an iPhone?

I have the expertise to prepare your website for iPhones or other mobile phones. Please note some designs may require a specific version exclusively for mobile devices.

 

My manager only speaks spanish. Can you speak spanish?

I can communicate with you in English, Spanish or Portuguese at any stage of the project. This is ideal if you are planning on having a bilingual website.

 

Will my website look good on Internet Explorer 6?

I no longer support Internet Explorer 6. You have no idea how much pleasure I get from this phrase... My websites use the best code, which is compliant with the most up-to-date standards for the web. Internet Explorer is an old browser (almost 10 years old, which is like 100 years in human time), extremely slow, full of bugs and security issues and it does not comply with the latest technologies. If you think that an important part of your clients is still using Internet Explorer 6 I can make your website look good for this version of this browser, but it will cost you more. If you don't pay extra, it doesn't mean your website will not work on Internet Explorer 6, but some elements may be out of place.

 

I don't have content for my website. Can you help me with that?

I am not a writer, so I cannot help you with your content. I recommend Sourdough Communications if you need a reliable person to take care of your content (tell Julie I said "Hi"!).

 

Why did you choose images of food to illustrate your website?

Well, I love to cook! Some of you know me but few of you know I once had a boutique cooking school in my house, when I lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Soon after I was selling organic sandwiches to local gyms and catering events on the weekends. Cooking is certainly one of my favorite hobbies so I wanted to somehow portrait that side of me. Just a little! :)
